2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons shortening
2/3 cup milk
Heat oven to 400°F. Combine dry ingredients. Cut in shortening as for pie dough, till crumbly. Stir in almost all of the milk, enough to make a soft, puffy dough. Knead gently 30 seconds. Handle lightly. Roll or pat to 1/2 inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut either with biscuit cutter or cut into squares. Do not reknead leftover bits. Push them together gently. Place biscuits on ungreased baking sheet. Put close together if you want soft sides or 1 inch apart if you want crunchy sides. Bake 10-12 minutes.
