2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons dried herb leaves - rosemary, basil, thyme, Italian seasoning, etc.
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup shortening
1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon melted butter
Heat oven to 400F. Mix dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening till mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in buttermilk till dough leaves sides of bowl. Dough will be soft and sticky. On lightly floured surface, knead dough lightly 10 times. Roll or pat to 1 inch thickness. Cut with floured 2 inch biscuit cutter. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet. Brush with butter. Bake 14-16 minutes till golden brown. Remove from sheet immediately. Serve warm.
