1/3 cup shortening
Beat together shortening and butter. Cream with sugar. Add baking powder and salt. Mix in egg, milk and vanilla. Gradually mix in 2 cups flour. Cover and refrigerate 3 hours. Heat oven to 375°F. Roll out half of dough at a time to 1/8 inch thickness on lightly floured surface. Cut into desired shapes with lightly floured cookie cutters. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 7-8 minutes. Cool on sheets 1 minute then remove to rack to finish cooling.
