Apple Cranberry Dessert

Serves: 16-22

24 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries or 32 ounces frozen unsweetened pitted tart red cherries
2 cups chopped, peeled cooking apples
2 tablespoons butter
1 1/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
2 slightly beaten eggs
3/4 cup melted butter
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
vanilla ice cream

Heat oven to 325°F. Grease bottom of 9x13 inch baking pan. Toss cranberries and apples together in baking pan. Dot mixture with butter. Sprinkle evenly with sugar and nuts. Whisk together eggs, butter, sugar and flour till well combined. Pour evenly over top of berry mixture. Bake uncovered 60-75 minutes till top is golden brown. Serve warm (cooled for 30 minutes) or at room temperature with ice cream.
Note
If using frozen cranberries, do not thaw before tossing with apples. If using frozen cherries, let stand at room temperature 30 minutes before tossing with apples.
