Gatto di Patate

2 pounds potatoes
1 egg
1 tablespoon butter, diced
2 ounces grated Parmesan cheese
2 ounces mozzarella cheese, diced (or shredded can be used)
2 ounces cooked ham, diced
2 tablespoons Italian parsley, chopped
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
pinch of nutmeg
1/2 cup milk
salt and pepper
2 tablespoons bread crumbs
1 tablespoon butter, diced

Boil potatoes, peel and mash them while still hot. Heat oven to 350°F. Lightly oil bottom of 8 inch round baking dish. In a bowl, combine mashed potatoes, egg, butter, cheeses, ham, parsley, peel, nutmeg, milk, salt and pepper. Pour the potato mixture in prepared pan and level it with a spatula. Top with bread crumbs and remaining butter. Bake for about 30 minutes, till the surface is golden. Serve hot.
